Happy New Year

Sorry for the lack of reports and forecasts- I'm up in the catskills doing some snowboarding. We got some snow, and conditions have been pretty damn good.

I'll be back by the ocean in a few days- and my attention will once again be on waves.

Thursday, December 25, 2008

Probably pretty good...

I haven't gotten down to the beach- but based on the buoy and winds...I'd say it's pretty good out there today. Go get some for me.

Merry Christmas.

Building

This swell is shaping up just as forecast- the only difference is the wind. Looking like NW winds won't hit LI until the afternoon. So the cleanup for LI maybe coming a bit later.

NJ should be getting the goods all day.

Tuesday, December 23, 2008

Christmas Present?

Offshore flow dominates for now. Winds will come up outta the south later weds and thru weds nite. Winds are forecast to swing towards NW for now- we'll see if that sticks.

Could be a decent swell with buoy forecast somewhere near 10' at 8 secs, headed towards 5or 6' at 9 secs for Thursday.

Sunday, December 21, 2008

Lefts.

Well, i got the report from Alex...our local beach is throwing out some sick lefts. It figures- I'm outta town. Not to mention that the lefts have sucked for the last year...and I'm a goofyfooter.

Go get some (for me)

Check out my Visual CV http://ping.fm/CMXeL

Wintry Mix

Wintry Mix has to be the worst type of weather...ugh. It's nasty out!

Waves are blown out-

Look for the swell to come up over the next few days with NE winds. Could be decent on LI, but looking craptacular for NJ.

Forecast is for winds to go west sunday afternoon- but it's a few days off so take that with a grain of salt.

Til then- get your shopping done. (or head north for some freshies)

Wednesday, December 17, 2008

Kind of a wave out there

There is a little wave out there right now, chest high, and the wind is light offshore.

Tide is high at 11 so its pretty mushy, but if the wind stays the same it could be fun early afternoon.

Its worth a paddle out now if you can't go later. I'm going to wait and hope it gets better, and warmer, this afternoon.

Tuesday, December 16, 2008

eh.

There's kinda some waves out there. Probably about waist to chest high. It's not looking too good here in NJ, though. Winds outta the NW, so there's a little bit of crossbump. Swell isnt that big, either.

As the tide drains, it might get a little better.

Might be worth a dip if you're really jonesin'

Saturday, December 13, 2008

Leftovers

There are still some waves leftover in the waist to chest hi range, maybe some bigger lines here and there.

Tide is dead high making it mushy and not worth the effort in the cold right now

Conditions should improve mid morning

Friday, December 12, 2008

Goin off

its too good to write much....i'm headed out.

head high- maybe bigger and tides droppin. Straight offshore here in jerz.

booyah.
Found six inches of water in the basement.....rad.

Funday Friday

Tomorrow is shaping up nicely for waves in nj. Wind is forecast West in the morning, and through the day. Swell should be at least 10 feet at 10 secs during the late morning-midday hours creating some nice cleaned up surf.

That's what's happening.
is happy seotimeline.com is coming together...
http://ping.fm/kUbNH is coming together nicely.

Nope NJ- Yup LI

NE winds is screwing up the waves in NJ... Looking pretty good up in LI, though.

So- basically NJ is waiting- maybe tomorrow with NW winds?
LI continues to get the goods through tomorrow with swell and offshore flow.

Wednesday, December 10, 2008

checking out ping.fm

Waves- but winds?

The south swell is showing up, as expected. Maybe a touch smaller than I thought- but its still solid chest-shoulder high with South wind. Doesn't look too good.
Winds are forecast to go SW overnight, then turn northerly overnight to become outta the NE tomorrow. That's a pretty sketchy wind forecast- so I'm thinking anything could really happen.

Waves should stay up through Friday with a reinforcing shot of swell coming Thursday night-keep watching the flags...

Long Island might get the goods this time, and leave NJ in the cold (and rain).

Your Tuesday Morning Update

The forecast is holding- so far!

Look for the waves to come up- and then the wind will swing more westerly as we go through Weds. Looking like cleanest conditions could be before dark. Should be solid head high+, maybe even bigger.

Got that cold water wax?

Monday, December 8, 2008

Building Swell

Hey Hey-

Waves should be coming up through out the day tomorrow and into Wed.

Wind forecast to go SW on Wed as of now...we'll see of that holds.

If all goes as forecast- we should be in for a good sized south with decent winds for weds.

stay tuned

Thursday, December 4, 2008

Today Thru the Weekend

A small windswell showed this afternoon, but it was super small. Nothing worth putting on a wetsuit...

It will continue to be flat for the next few days. Next chance for waves is Tues or so. Forecasts are calling for a macking swell- but it's just too early to be sure.

Stay tuned, ya heard?

Wednesday, December 3, 2008

Tomorrow? Probably Not.

Wind is supposed to come up outta the South pretty hard on Thursday- there's a chance that it will push in a small windswell. I doubt it will produce anything worth going out for- but I let you know...

Gone

It's really small-only about knee high. Do something else.

Tuesday, December 2, 2008

Tuesday Morning

Aye- good morning to ya.

Winds are light outta the west, and the waves are about chest high. Looks like some morning sickness out there, though. I'm hoping the offshores will straighten it out soon. The buoy is showing bigger than the beaches- maybe it'll come up with the incoming tide?

It'll be worth a go out in a bit in NJ- probably best to go out now in NY due to strong west winds forecast today.

Monday, December 1, 2008

Not looking too good...

The wind came up a bunch, and has a bit too much south-it's getting pretty hacked up. Too bad, it would be good with more west in the wind.

Wind's forecast to go more west later- and also for tomorrow. Maybe a late cleanup? Ahh, it'll probably be dark. haha

December!? (at least it's warm)

Waves are in the head to OH range this morning. It's a bit mixed up yet, but looks to be cleaning up here in NJ with the SW wind. Hopefully, the offshores will straighten it out some more.

Should be good this afternoon.

Wednesday, November 26, 2008

Leftovers

Still some waves out there. It's in the chest high range, and the tide's dropping. Go get some.

Tuesday, November 25, 2008

Undercalled?

The swell showed a bit stronger than expected. It was pretty much solid head high- and the buoy's are still bigger than forecast. Hopefully, this trend keeps up through morning.

That'd be cool.

Waves Are Here

The south swell showed up, and the wind is offshore here in NJ. Look for the swell period to increase, and the waves to get more lined up as the day progresses. It should be in the solid chest high range- according to the models.

Tomorrow sees the swell stick around at about 4 feet at 9 secs... and continues through the week, swinging more easterly.

Monday, November 24, 2008

Week of Waves?

That storm we've been watching has decided to move more favorably into our swell window. Sick.

So here's the deal. Tuesday sees windswell come up all day- perhaps a cleanup in the afternoon. Weds sees the swell period increase, and makes for some better conditions. Then the swell should start to rotate more easterly, and stick around for a few days in the waist to chest high range.

I'm pumped.

Keep checking back for updates- this thing could decide to change its mind again- and skunk us. haha

Friday, November 21, 2008

Forecast for Next Swell

A low should move down from the Great Lakes early next week, and COULD kick up some surf for us Tues/Weds. It all depends on the track this thing decides to take- as of now its looking not looking too good. The forecast now is for the storm to exit just south of us, and then track NE. That'll produce some south short period windswell, then it'll be gone with gusty offshores.

Hopefully the track changes!

Til' then do something else.

Thursday, November 20, 2008

Little Bump

So that little east swell showed up. It wasn't much- but enough to maybe get wet. Next chance for waves looks like before Thanksgiving- maybe Tuesday?

Wednesday, November 19, 2008

Minor Background Swell

Could see some small, but rideable background swell over the next few days. Nothing really, but it should be clean with the mostly offshore flow. Keep an eye on the buoys and tide. A little swell and an incoming tide could bump it up in the 'fun' category.

Tuesday, November 18, 2008

Flat into the future.

Its pretty much flat, with flatness in the horizon. I'll let you know what's up ...next chance for waves.

Monday, November 17, 2008

Sunday and Monday

I hope you got some yesterday. I heard it was pretty good.

Today, (Monday) has got some waves again. It's about chest high, but there's kinda a wait between sets. I'm going to wait for the tide to drop out some, and see it gets a bit better.

The rest of the week is lookin flat and cold. yikes.

Saturday, November 15, 2008

Building

So as predicted, the swell's building. It will continue to come up until the wind goes west, sometime late tonight. Tomorrow's looking good with a strong swell and strong offshores in NJ.

Should be solid head high+ in the morning, and drop off pretty quickly thru the day with the hard offshores.

It's pretty nasty out there now- not really worth it.

Friday, November 14, 2008

There's Waves

yo yo yo
So those strong winds blew in a windswell. Its waist to chest high, maybe a bit bigger every once in a while. It's pretty disorganized, and not looking too spectacular. It's been getting a bit better as the tide drops out, but the wind seems to be breathing out of the south. The forecast is for the wind to be south at 10kts later. Probably looking at the best session of the day around 11am.

See ya out there.

Thursday, November 13, 2008

Waiting

It's still really small. Look for the surf to come up tonight into tomorrow. Nothing huge, but it could be fun. I'm thinking it will show at about chest high. West winds make for clean conditions in NJ.

Wednesday, November 12, 2008

Here come the fronts...

Alright....
So it looks like a disturbance will pass by area waters Thursday and leave a small south windswell for Friday morning. Winds are looking light south until the cold front approaches Friday afternoon. This front looks to pack a punch, with winds gusting to 30kts ahead of the passage. Winds should be sustained from the south for 24 hrs or so. Wind goes hard offshore after the front comes through- probably late Saturday. Sunday morning sees the cleanup with swell height predicted at about 6' at 9 secs. We'll see.

Flat

It's still flat... but we've got some waves on the way for late this week into the weekend.

I'll do a forecast later.

Tuesday, November 11, 2008

pfffffttttt.

Basically flat.

Be sure to thank a veteran today.

Monday, November 10, 2008

Small and Offshore

Gusty west winds, and small little swell. Looking like much of the same until late this week.
South flow looking to build in Thursday and Friday increasing our chance for waves into the weekend.
Until then....

Sunday, November 9, 2008

Flat-ish

Pretty damn small. Might be a longboardable wave with the incoming tide, if you're into that sorta thing.

Looking pretty flat into this week. booooo.

Saturday, November 8, 2008

Stupid Wind

Good Morning-

Winds came up outta the South early. Swell still holding at about 4' at 10 secs.

The forecast is for winds to go more SW later today. So maybe we'll squeak out one more clean session out of this swell.

We'll see.

Friday, November 7, 2008

Late Update...

Sorry for the late update. I got outta the house early this morning, after checking it out front.

Here's the rundown of the day.

Early AM in NJ showed lumpy, textured surf in the Head+ range. Not looking good.
We drove up to LI, and it wasn't even all that great. (Yesterday, it was pretty damn good up there, based upon the reports I heard.) We got it chest+ and kinda mushy. Basically, it was like the swell was missing LI due to the East in it.

Checked out the hook on the way back, and it wasnt really doing it there. Around chest high. Cruised down to Long Branch, and surf some head high semi-closeouts. Blah.

Basically drove around all day, and didnt even get it good.

Hoping for some leftovers in the AM. The swell should stick around a bit- but the forecast's calling for the south wind to come up pretty strong.

Thursday, November 6, 2008

Nor'easter Conditions

Its a pretty typical Nor'easter out there. Its onshore and nasty in NJ. It's got the size, but is just a mess.

Long Island was looking good yesterday, and I expect the same for today.

Tomorrow- The winds are forecast to go North, then NW. I'm hoping we get more west in the winds early. Either way, LI should be damn good. again.

Wednesday, November 5, 2008

The Build is Here

Good Morning.

This swell is shaping up as described. It's almost head high out there already, but the winds starting to screw it up in NJ. It's probably pretty good in NY.

I'm playing by winter rules- so I'll wait for the cleanup before going out.

One change to the forecast- winds are looking to go NW on Friday. Hopefully, this wind forecast holds. Its good for NJ, and good for NY. Win-Win

Tuesday, November 4, 2008

Nor'easter

Hello hello. I'm back from St Martin. Yeah, I got some waves down there. Nothing huge or epic, but it was warm and blue. Gotta love the carib.

As Alex mentioned, we are in for some swell this week. Looking like a sizeable one, too. So here's the breakdown...
Weds- Winds increase outta the NE and swell starts to come up. Maybe NJ will be decent early, if the winds arent honkin at dawn- but I'm doubtful. LI should be pretty good, maybe best around midday. Swell is coming up, but winds should get pretty heavy late.
Thurs- Swell should be still coming up, peaking late in the day. Winds also look pretty heavy. LI looks good with the northerly flow.
Fri- Winds could come more NW, allowing for better conditions in NJ. LI looks good...again.
Sat- Swell continues to drop, but winds go SW. Looking like the cleanest day for NJ. Let's hope the swell holds.

As for size? I am guessing LI should see some solid OH sets during this swell. NJ will be big and blown out for most of it.

Something

There is a little longboard wave out there this morning in the knee high range, 2 ft at 10 seconds. Winds are ligtht so its fairly clean if you need to get wet.

Friday, October 31, 2008

Flat

Surf in the New York / New Jersey area is flat and will remain this way through the weekend.

There looks to be another ENE swell coming sometime around Nov 5 - 7, but who knows.

Tuesday, October 28, 2008

Cold and small

So the swell is dropping quickly with the 20 MPH WNW winds blowing it out to sea.

If you missed the last few days and are desperate you could surf on a longboard, but its like knee high and weak.

Its f-ing cold though, and there are reports of snow in PA and even Western NJ.

Its too early for winter, Im hibernating

Monday, October 27, 2008

Wow

This swell just won't die.  Tonight on the incoming it was still head high, and the buoy data can back that claim up:

5.2 Feet
9 Seconds

solid.

We still have hope for waves tomorrow...

10 out of 10

Jersey was as good as it gets on Sunday, a couple feet overhead and tons of barrels.  I took some photos and will post them later.

Today the swell has dropped a lot and its chest to shoulder high.  A little disorganized and closing out with the high tide, but as this drops it should straighten out a be fun.

Saturday, October 25, 2008

If you build it...

The build is on today with consistent onshore SSE winds around 20 KT with gusts up to 35.  Not really rideable, but waves are anywhere from chest to head high.

The wind switches in the middle of the night and grooms the waves for the early morning session.
I think the swell will get beat down a little during the night though, so I'm going to say it will be head high Sunday morning.

Friday, October 24, 2008

Waist plus

Yo yo

The east swell is showing at about waist to chest high. Winds are light early. I'm going to go hit it.

Look for increasing winds, and swell as we progress through the weekend. Looking good for Sunday-Monday. (Maybe late Saturday?)

Thursday, October 23, 2008

Waiting

Waves should come up out of the east, now through Friday making for rideable conditions. Then a low comes up the coast and provides sizeable waves Sunday-Monday. Looking like Sunday could see the cleanup.

The beginning of October really sucked, but it's definetly going out with a bang.

Wednesday, October 22, 2008

flat brrrrr flat

wow- season's feel like they changed overnight!
Waves last night were pretty small, but some swell was still filtering through the gusty winds. I got a couple fun ones...
It's going to be pretty small mid-week with a chance for an increase from the east later. There's still a trace coming in, but it's getting blown out to sea with these strong winds.
Maybe some rideable waves on Friday, and then another swell coming in for later in the weekend.
It looks like we've finally broken out of the flat spell pattern we were stuck in, but it also is the start of cold air coming down from Canada. Break out the rubber.

Tuesday, October 21, 2008

Swell's Sticking around

There's still some waves out there today. It's around chest high, with some better sets. I'd expect Jerz to be a bit bigger than LI. Conditions are pretty good with the offshore flow in NJ. I'm waiting for the tide to drop out....

Sunday, October 19, 2008

There's some swell

The east swell has shown up, as predicted. Its 9' at 8 sec now, and the angle of the swell is pretty steep for LI. Winds are strong out of the NNE/NE. Jerz is probably a big mess.

The swell should continue to fill in through out the day. I'd expect there to be some pretty good conditions at the better spots on LI, today.

Look for this swell to stick around tomorrow(maybe better?)- and maybe a bit of leftovers on Tuesday AM.

Saturday, October 18, 2008

wait.

so its pretty much flat today. maybe a barely ridable wave...

look for the swell to come up tomorrow and monday, with northerly winds. NY looks like the best place to be...

Friday, October 17, 2008

Blown out

Its blown out here in Jerz today. Last nite was pretty fun, though. Around chest high and light offshore.

NY is probably clean but pretty small.

Thursday, October 16, 2008

Waves Today...

Waves are about waist high or so this morning, but the high tide is kinda killing it. As the tide drains out, the waves should improve. Winds are SW, but is forecast to go more West later. Swell could come up a bit, too.
Could be some good ones later this afternoon in Jerz.

Wednesday, October 15, 2008

A little Swell

Tide's pretty high here this morning, but there's a bump out there. Looking like the best chance for waves will be around the incoming tide this afternoon. Swell should build in a bit too. Could be decent.

Tuesday, October 14, 2008

I think we can surf again!

OK! Finally!

So it looks like the small east swell we have running now will increase a bit Wed-Thurs. Winds looking pretty good for both days in Jerz, and light enough in NY in the mornings. It's not a big swell or anything but should be rideable. I'm thinking it'll be around waist high, maybe a bit bigger at the best spots/tides.

Friday the swell should start to really increase outta the NE, and continue through Sunday. Winds look to be an issue in Jerz- but its still kinda far out to really say. Winds should be pretty good in NY...but the swell angle looks pretty steep, so it'll be smaller.

I'll continue to post updates through the week...cuz I'm pretty much amping. haha

unrideable

it's still unrideable.

Look for an update about the forecast later...

Monday, October 13, 2008

Flat- Maybe next weekend?

Good morning- Happy Columbus Day.

Looking Unrideable again.

There's a glimmer of hope that we'll see a NE well late this week[end]. It's still a bit far out to accurately forecast- but it's the best chance we've had in quite some time.

I'll keep ya posted.

Sunday, October 12, 2008

Flat

In case you didn't know...it's flat.

again.

Saturday, October 11, 2008

Still Friggin Flat

Flat with northerly flow. It's really nice out, again- just no waves. Go pumpkin picking or something. haha

Friday, October 10, 2008

Trying to Reason with Hurricane Season

So according to my records, we've had a really crappy hurricane season. What...2 swells?

Actually, we've had like 4 'real' swells in the last 5 months. Pathetic time to be a surfer, huh?

Buffet's Take...

Ankle High Trace

Wow. It's really nice out today. Too bad it's flat.

This flat spell doesn't have an end in sight-at least no REAL waves.

Thursday, October 9, 2008

It's rideable?

Call me crazy- but I think its rideable. I mean just barely. If you're 90 lbs or ride a super floaty board you might be able to get wet.

It's really nice out, though. If you're desperate, come down to the beach. Bring a big board, a fishing pole and a cooler.

I'm waiting for the tide to come in, then I'm going spearfishing. Viz has been great!

FUH-LAT

Yup...still flat.

wtf! Isn't this supposed to be our best season: no summer crowd, warm water, hurricanes? This flat spell is rediculous. I really need a surf.

Wednesday, October 8, 2008

The Napalm is making it go onshore!

classic surf scene in Apocalypse Now...

The surf talk begins at 10:50

Oh yea... still flat.

Whatcha watcha watcha want...

So my little blog here has been getting some views. I guess you all care what's going on, ocean-wise, around the Ny/Nj area. Cool.

I want to ask what features you would like to see on this blog. Want some more links about forecasting? Want me to post stuff from other sites I find interesting?

Let me know.... I'd love to hear your comments. (I'll really read them!)

Flat....and then probably flat again & again & again.

It's as flat as can be. I didn't even see a trace of swell. Great day to be on a boat!

Go fishing, get work done, put in family time... whatever.

That little swell for the weekend hasnt really materialized. In fact, it looks like we'll be stuck in this crappy pattern for the foreseeable future.

Want to see some real waves? Check out Bali.

Wish I was there!

Check back daily- I'll be the first to tell ya when it's rideable. I'm jonesin' too!

Tuesday, October 7, 2008

Flat

Flat.

Maybe a little something outta the SE coming during the weekend. Doesn't look great, though.

Monday, October 6, 2008

As expected...still flat.

Waves out there are bunk. Next chance for waves is Friday-Sunday, with a southeasterly swell. I'll keep ya posted, as the forecast shapes up.

Sunday, October 5, 2008

Still flat

Looking like flatness prevails for the foreseeable future. So much for hurricane season...

Saturday, October 4, 2008

flat and glassy

in case you're wondering, it's flat. nothing going on in the forecast either. boo.

Friday, October 3, 2008

Flaaaaaaat

Its flat with a fairly strong southerly flow.

Not looking good.

Thursday, October 2, 2008

Not much going on...

Well, that small long period swell is even smaller now. Its under 2 feet at 12 secs, so any wave that you'll find today is bound to be damn small. Maybe a knee to thigh line somewhere, but nothing to wet your pants over....

Looking forward- small residual groundswell continues to fade with westerly flow. Nothing really on the immediate horizon, either. blah.

fishing looks like the call for the next few days....

Wednesday, October 1, 2008

Some little waves out there...

NJ showing some little waves- its about waist high and a long wait between sets...but there's waves. I'd expect east facing beaches to pick up some of this long period swell on LI, as well.

It's not epic, and probably not worth skippin' out on commitments. Save those for a better day!

Look for this swell to stick around at around this height for a day or so. Winds should be west most of the week- clean in NJ.

Long Period Swell Starting to Show

Yo yo yo-

The tide's still on its way in, and is pretty high already...BUT there looks to be a wave out there. Buoy's showing some swell at around 3' @ 13 seccs, so it should be plenty rideable today. I'm going to see if it gets better at lower tides. Incoming would probably be your best bet-

Tuesday, September 30, 2008

Kinda small...

Good Morning-

Waves out there are pretty small, maybe around knee high. The tide's high this morning, making for basically unrideable conditions early.

Buoy's holding at about 3' @ 10 secs , so there could be a decent little wave coming in at lower tides.

Long period swell to start showing tomorrow.

Monday, September 29, 2008

Week of Waves

Good Afternoon-

Waves out there should be dropping throughout the day. It would be best to get out there as the tide comes in to push the waves up a bit.

This morning on LI was super fun- Chest to Head+ with winds outta the north. NJ didn't fare as well, due to sideshore winds- with the exception of south facers...

Looks like another low sets up to give us some long period east swell throughout the work week.

September Sessions!

Saturday, September 27, 2008

Late Report

Swell is definetely in the water. Many spots in NJ were looking craptacular, however. NY has faired a bit better with light NE winds this morning.

Tomorrow looks like a solid day of waves in NY- winds with a northerly component. Jerz should be good early, and if the wind goes NW as predicted later in the day...

I'd check it early!

Friday, September 26, 2008

Winds slacked off a bit

Good Morning-

Winds have slacked off a bit this morning, and waves are "cleaning up" -Dont get me wrong, its still a mess out there, just not as messy as it was.

It might be worth a check of a more protected spot... if you're in to that sorta thing.

Wind should come back up as we go through the day.

Thursday, September 25, 2008

Gale Warning

The wind has really come up here on the beach over the last few hours. Stuff's slidin across the front porch. Take a look at the wind field over the whole atlantic. Wind should continue to increase as this storm(no named low) comes past us, then wait for kyles wind to come up. Still lookin good for a solid session on sunday, somewhere.

The Wind is Still Coming Up

Waves are breaking 200 yards out- well past normal...

Victory at Sea

Honkin NE winds have created a mess of an ocean. There are chop waves in the head high range, and actual sets of swell are solid OH. Pretty much victory at sea conditions.

I always wondered where that expression came from...here's wikipedia's take

Wind forecast for the weekend says NW winds for Sunday. I am highly skeptical about the next few days wind forecast, however. Storms like this are highly changeable, and forecasts are a guess, at best.

Keep checkin for updates.

Wednesday, September 24, 2008

As forecast...it's a mess.

Waves out there are building with the onshore flow. Winds should increase through the work week, and push in a good sized swell. Lookin like the weekend might provide some favorable winds.

Tuesday, September 23, 2008

Trough brings the Froth?

The low off SC will begin to interact with the tropical depression near PR/DR in the near future. Its uncertain how these lows will hash out- but it is certain that the depression will head northward. Let's see how this plays out.

Locally-
Waves are in the head high range- and a pretty big mess. If you like paddling in a washer machine, you are stoked. Heck, maybe you'll luck into a short wall...

Mess

Its a mess out there. Stiff NE winds building up some shlop.

m'eh

Waiting for a cleanup.

Monday, September 22, 2008

The start of weeklong slopfest

Its pretty ugly looking out there. Its about knee high, and the winds side/onshore. Look for winds to blow out the NE with peak wind intensity forecasted for Wednesday - Thursday. Doesn't look good for much of a cleanup at east facing beaches- perhaps better at south facing.

Sunday, September 21, 2008

Sunday Funday

Good Morning.

As expected winds died over nite leaving behind a clean chest to head high easterly swell. Its sheet glass out there right now.

Winds are forecast to be light NW, then switch more NE. I'm pretty much expecting a lite seabreeze to pick up when the land warms up enough...

In the meantime go hit it!

More NE windswell early this week...

Saturday, September 20, 2008

Winds are light....

Afternoon Update:

Winds slacked off throughout the afternoon, and conditions improved a bunch. Its still chunky, but the faces have cleaned up. Around chest to head high, maybe the odd bigger set. It ain't perfect but its pretty fun. Go get some before dark.

Tomorrow should be pretty good- winds stay light overnight. Hopefully, the wobble and funk is gone by morning.

slopfest

still blowin outta the NE. theres some swell out there, but its pretty mixed up with the NE windswell on top of it. Its plenty rideable, and worth a go-out. Look for better conditions tomorrow, with winds slacking overnight. Marine forecast callin for light N winds- I'd imagine it will be fairly glassy in the morning.

The build is on...

As predicted, the wind is blowin hard outta the NE, and the waves are coming up. Its rideable, but a mess. Maybe you can find some protection, and get a decent go-out....

Waves? Today? Really?

Believe it or not... there's a little wave out there today. Its about thigh to waist, dare I say a bit bigger? Its breakin thru the high tide this morning, too. There's a couple guys out getting some waves. Worth a check, if you got nothing else going on.

Look for the winds to start kickin up outta the NE later this evening. Waves with onshore flow through the weekend. Maybe a cleanup on Sunday.

Flaaaaaat

hello there surf junkies.

Its flat this morning, and it feels like a bit of fall air has come over us. brrrr. It reminds me of gloves, boots and hoods. Which means our real surf season can't be too farr off!

Look for winds to start honkin outta the NE on Thursday evening. This kinda swell will be bigger as you head south, biggest down in the OBX. Winds look like an issue pretty much everywhere- unless you've got some sort of protection.

really small

good morning. waves are pretty flat this morning... look for an increase of winds/waves from the NE late this week. rideable again friday? we'll see.

Low Tide, afternoon update

Waves are about knee to thigh high, with a waist high bomb every once in a while. It could get a little bigger/better with the incoming tide. Its super nice out- I might go get a few in a bit.

Small bump out there...

Well, that south wind pushed in a little bump- but the tide's way too high now with the full moon. Maybe worth a check later...

sunday-end day

the belmar pro wrapped up today- pretty sure kyle garson took 1st place- at least that was my take after leaving the beach...

tomorrow looks like small south windswelll- maybe

its worth a chek if your jonesin or whatever. i'll probably try to get a few slides in.....

water was pretty murky tonite. couldnt see more than two feet. no speared fish.

summertime conditions

waves are in the barely rideable category today. its hot and humid, and a good day at the beach. belmar pro ends today.

maybe a small south wind bump tomorrow, but i'm not too optimistic.

hopefully the tropics stir something up for us soon.

Belmar Pro Weekend

Belmar Pro bro-down in full effect. Its knee to waist high, clean with light NW winds. Tide's on its way out. Probably worth a look-see if you ain't got nutin better to do.

Should be a fun day down here. Tons of people makin their way down to the contest site. Looks like one more weekend of 'summer'.

...da youths of today are like a human bomb... i say, watchout

More of the same...

Good morning from the beach! Unfortunately, we are still looking at barely rideable conditions today. Winds will be out of the south- at least the water's still warm.

Need a little something to amp about? Check out this photo feature on Surfline- there's some jerz in there! http://www.surfline.com/surf-news/hurricane-hanna-sends-pumping-surf-to-the-east-coast---with-more-to-come-september-sessions_18410/photos/

Remember

It was only 7 years ago- don't forget the sacrifices given.

Waves today look small, but somewhat rideable. Waist high range with easterly winds. Heats in the belmar pro start today.

Belmar Pro

The Belmar Pro is setting up down on the beach, but the waves look pretty crappy. waist high+ and blown out from the NE. Heats start tomorrow morning- but the forecast doesnt look great. Last Sunday and Monday morning were damn good all over NJ. Hope you got yours.

Actual waves today

There was actually a little wave breaking this afternoon as the tide went out and the wind went offshore. I surfed on my SUP for 1 hour and then on a fun board for another hour. It was about knee high with the occational bigger set. Leaves hope for tomorrow morning's DP session.

In other news it looks like we have a decent swell lined up for the weekend. I think it will remain rideable all weekend, but Sunday night into Monday morning could be the best waves we have seen in a while, maybe in the Chest + range. Keep your fingers crossed for favorable winds.

Morning report

Ankle to thigh high and pretty worthless right now, but high tide is at 1030, so maybe as the tide drains out it will be rideable on a longboard.

Hoping for a long period southern hemi swell through the weekend in the 1 - 2 foot range at 16 seconds. It could be fun at times with the right tide, it all depends on the swell angle though.

Crack open a beer...

the waves suck, what a dissapointment

Smoke on the water

An afternoon fog has rolled in with a NNE wind, WTF? What happened to waves and offshore winds in the afternoon?

Still holding out hope for an evening session.

Morning surf report

Pretty weak and lame, the wind is light out of the SSW, where is this swell going to come from? I'm not to optimistic that its going to build during the day, but stranger things have happened

Possible swell coming

Hoping for a little bump to build overnight and into Wednesday, and the offshores to come before dark...

Will update tomorrow as things develop

Pray for a midweek session

New Jersey Surf report

The early morning high tide made the DP a no go, but as the tide drained out the waves got much better. Sizw was consistanly waist high with the rare stomach/chest high set, but pretty weak, no power. The form was also variable, some peaks some lines.

Low tide is around 12 today, so if the wind stays WSW there should be a workable wave on the incoming.

Just back from inlet...

So, I biked down to the inlet to do some fishing between storms- nothing biting. I threw everything at 'em; spoons, plugs, bucktails.

The swell is picking up. Windswell lines are looking a bit more organized, with a few sets causing me to run up the rocks to not get wet. haha

The build should continue into tonight- hopefully the wind will swing around more westerly for an evening go out. If not, tomorrow AM might have some little waves.

All-in-all.... maybe something to get wet.

NJ Surf Report Saturday May 31 2008

The wind is blowing out the S, maybe SSW, and its cold and grey. Its starting to build into the ankle to knee high range, but sloppy and not even rideable.

Wait for it...

No surf, so I started blogging

Hi All,

So summer is here and I'm already bored. After a really solid (consistant but not huge) winter of waves here in New Jersey, check out this Surfing Magazine article on NJ being the East Coasts best kept winter secret, the ocean has gone flat.

Because of the flatness and the resulting boredom, I decided to start writing about surfing/living/working on the beach in NJ. I guess its better than just drinking all day, but we will have to see.

I plan to have forecasts, reports (a couple times daily), pictures, and other stuff about Jersey surfing. Please check back regularly for updates.
